In November 2018, Julia Mulligan became North Yorkshire’s first Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner following the Home Secretary’s approval of her business case for a transfer in governance.

Now in her second term, having been re-elected in May 2016, Julia is a Director of the Association for Police and Crime Commissioners, the national body for PCCs, holding a number of national portfolios including integrity and ethics, and rural affairs. She also sits on a number of other national boards, and is a former chair of the national Police Reform and Transformation Board.

Before entering politics, Julia ran her own business specialising in evidence-based behaviour change and prior to that, enjoyed ten years in the communications industry specialising in corporate change for large multinational organisations.
